The Role

Reporting to and supported by Durrell’s Caribbean Programmes Manager and Durrell’s Curator of Herpetology the Saint Lucia Racer Programme Coordinator will be responsible for the daily running, development and delivery of Durrell’s conservation efforts for the Saint Lucia racer (Erythrolamprus ornatus) and associated species. This includes captive animal management, fieldwork and engagement of local partners and communities. The primary function of this role is the core responsibility and oversight of the Saint Lucia racer breeding facility including daily husbandry and welfare of all captive animals held under the Saint Lucia Racer Programme.

The Saint Lucia Racer Programme Coordinator acts as Durrell’s main focal point for the Saint Lucia racer husbandry on Saint Lucia and as such will maintain partnerships with local collaborators. In addition, they will engage in and support any fieldwork where required, and assist in designing, coordinating and delivering outreach and engagement opportunities with local communities to improve knowledge and perceptions of local wildlife.
