Celebrating 60 with a wild night!
The countdown to Durrell’s 60th anniversary ball has begun! This Saturday, nearly 500 guests will arrive at the Royal Jersey Showground for the most anticipated night of the year, the Investec Wilderness Ball.
Brought to you by the same team that hosted the Rainforest Ball with Take That in 2017, the Wilderness Ball will bring to life Durrell’s vision of a wilder, healthier, more colourful world and will raise funds for the charity to rebuild diverse and resilient landscapes in which wildlife and people can thrive.
Dr Lesley Dickie, Chief Executive of Durrell said: “We wanted to celebrate our 60th year in style with an exciting, elegant evening that will showcase the natural beauty and diversity of the world we live in. The Investec Wilderness Ball is a bold and bright celebration of everything that Durrell strives for. We want to show that people can make a difference and that together we can rewild our world.”
At this spectacular event, hosted by explorer and TV presenter Monty Halls, guests will be immersed in amazing technicolour, highlighting the vibrancy and beauty of our natural world, and a whole evening of entertainment will unfold to celebrate our wild and wonderful planet. In addition to an exclusive performance from world-famous band Sister Sledge, guests will enjoy dance and music acts that will take them on a journey of discovery; a journey that shows the power we all have to heal the planet and protect both people and wildlife.
Commenting on their upcoming performance in Jersey, Sister Sledge said: “We are thrilled to be getting you all ‘Lost in Music’ at the Investec Wilderness Ball. It is an honour to sing for a charity that strives to conserve and protect our precious environment, and we are looking forward to getting wild with you in the Wilderness!”
This Thursday in the lead up to the big event, Investec’s Go Wild Gorillas sculpture, Kong of the Savannah by Jessica Perrin, will be leaving his home at the Maritime Museum for the Royal Jersey Showground, where he will meet disco legends Sister Sledge and other lucky Wilderness Ball guests on Saturday. Gorilla-spotters can expect to see the popular zebra-themed silverback returned to his home the week following the Wilderness Ball.

Durrell is hugely grateful to Investec for their ongoing support following on from the success of the Rainforest Ball in 2017, which raised over £220,000 for Sumatran orangutans. This year, the charity hopes to raise even more for their international conservation work. During the evening there will be a live auction hosted by antiques expert and BBC presenter David Harper, as well as a silent auction with a variety of once-in-a-lifetime lots that Durrell hopes will raise vital funds for their work protecting threatened wildlife and reconnecting people to the natural world.
