Matt Goetz has been at Durrell since 2002, when he moved from Germany to join our Herpetology department as a Supervisor before being promoted to Curator of Herpetology and Invertebrates in 2012.

During this time, Matt has been heavily involved in a number of field conservation and breeding programmes, including Mallorcan midwife toads, Iguanas in Grand Cayman and Little Cayman, the Jersey agile frog head-starting and release programme, our mountain chicken frog programme, overseeing the chelonian breeding centres in Madagascar, the establishment of our St Lucia racer snake breeding facility and the breeding and release of species for Mauritius, including in response to the 2020 oil spill. Matt also co-ordinates the Lesser Antillean iguana EEP, is a member of the IUCN Iguana Specialist Group, is the EAZA Reptile TAG Vice-Chair responsible for chelonians and sits on the EAZA EEP Committee.
